Phil & Teds Explorer Product ReviewPhil & Teds ExplorerWritten by: HeatherPhil & Teds recently introduced the newest member of their line, an inline stroller by the name of explorer. (I’m pretty sure versatility is its middle name, in case you were wondering.)It’s a smart, sleek stroller with a million and two—OK, maybe just seven, but it seems like a million and two!—configurations to accommodate a growing family’s ever-changing needs. Let’s talk about adaptability first, since that’s the explorer’s most outstanding quality, and then chat about all its other great characteristics. Sound like a plan? The explorer has a handful of add-on accessories that allow it to transform from single to double stroller and transport children from newborn to toddler. It lies flat for a brand-new baby or can be used with the peanut bassinet; a car seat adapter turns it into a travel system. A toddler can sit comfortably upright in the main seat, upfront in the second seat (with baby sibling reclined in the main seat, or behind in the second seat (with baby sibling tucked into the infant car seat). The second seat can also be used to make the stroller appropriate for two toddlers, with one seated in the rear-placed second seat and the other in the main. (Didn’t catch all that? phil&teds has a helpful diagram on their site that explains it visually.) All the different configurations are awesome, and I love that I can have both a single and double stroller in one. My garage has enough clutter as it is—that last thing I need is multiple strollers!(Which actually brings me to another nice feature of the explorer: Its front wheel can swivel (for shopping or hanging out at the fair) or be locked (for jogging or navigating rougher terrains), and the air-filled tires make for a smooth ride on any surface. See why versatility is its middle name? The explorer is really made to do anything and everything.) Now, back to why I love the inline for its space-saving qualities. Not only does it eliminate the need for multiple strollers, it also takes up much less space than a side-by-side model. Getting through doorways and steering through crowds is much, much easier, and it fits in the back of my Honda Civic without dominating the entire trunk. I mean, it takes up a good portion of it, sure, but it fits! and there’s room for groceries! Speaking of folding, the explorer has a super easy one-hand fold, and any mom with two kiddos (or even one, for that matter) knows she needs every free hand she can get. The pedal brake is also easy to use—and flip flop-friendly—and the generous follow-the-sun canopy is another summertime perk. The main seat is roomy, comfortable and washable, and it offers a full, easy-to-use drawstring recline. The undercarriage storage basket is roomy too and easily accessible when the second seat is not in use. (When the second seat is secured in the rear position, the storage basket holds your tot’s feet, so plan to stow your diaper bag and other belongs elsewhere.) The second seat has a small canopy as well, which is a nice feature, and my tikes both loved sitting in the “really cool” second seat.Well, I think that about covers it! To sum things up—in case you spaced out there in the middle or got distracted when your tot emptied his lunch plate all over the floor—the explorer is an excellent option for families with expanding broods and limited space. I found its versatility impressive (you picked up on that at least, I hope!), and I feel confident you will too. Psst! Assembling the explorer isn’t hard—I managed to figure it out in just 15 minutes or so—but if you like to be walked through things step by step, check out the handy video put together by the kind folks at Phil & Teds. It’s a nice demonstration of the stroller’s features and how it works. To check out the explorer please follow the provided links for single and double buggies.
